Learning Objectives:

Left atrial (LA) strain is a measure of myocardial deformation acquired by speckle tracking echocardiography, through a dedicated software which automatically traces LA endocardium and generates a positive strain curve based on LA reservoir, conduit, and contractile function, expressed as percentage. These parameters, particularly LA reservoir strain, have shown diagnostic and prognostic utility in several clinical settings, such as heart failure, valvular heart disease and atrial fibrillation.
