Meeting the challenge of community diagnostics and advancing the UK diagnostic landscape
People throughout the UK need better access to diagnostic care — the best way to meet that need and reduce diagnostic backlogs is with a community-based approach.
GE Healthcare will partner with you to understand one or more key focus areas, including your patients, workforce, connectivity to existing systems, and how diagnostic facilities need to scale and evolve over time, to deliver a community diagnostic centre (CDC) shaped around you.

SPECIALISED CENTRES AT OneWelbeck
Welbeck Health Partners have collaborated with GE Healthcare to reimagine the clinic outside of the hospital setting. The OneWelbeck Centre brings care closer to the community for faster, more accessible diagnoses and outpatient interventions.
SURGICAL HUB AT TALLAGHT UNIVERSITY HOSPITAL
To address increasing waiting lists at one of Ireland’s largest acute
teaching hospitals, an ahead-of-its-time dedicated day surgery centre
was launched in collaboration with operational and clinical teams from within
the internal hospital environment, and specialist external GE Healthcare.
RADIOLOGY, ST HELENS AND KNOWSLEY TEACHING HOSPITALS NHS TRUST
Working in collaboration with GE Healthcare, the Radiology Service
at St Helens and Knowsley Teaching Hospitals gained a fresh perspective
to generate efficiency gains by extracting valuable equipment use data to see
where additional patient throughput could be created.
Whatever stage of planning you are at, our CDC planning tool can make an immediate recommendation, followed by a detailed, personalised report with proposals for your community-based diagnostic facility, workforce and connectivity services within two working days.
Every trust will be working from a different starting point, and every CDC will need to be created differently. We’ll work closely with you to develop a flexible, bespoke plan delivering the highest level of diagnostic care.
Your Patients
We’ll help you engage with and understand patient needs from an individual to a population level; modelling to ‘right-size’ solutions and designing efficient clinical pathways, which provide patients with fast, effective access to the full range of diagnostics.
Your workforce
We’ll also support the professional development of your CDC workforce and help make the most of their time and skills, while providing access to outsourced support to help bridge gaps when establishing your CDC.
SCALABLE FACILITY SOLUTIONS
Whatever your stage of planning, we’ll provide an in-depth analysis to help identify the right solution for you: from short-term modular solutions such as ‘CT in a box’ to long-term developments equipped with multi-modality diagnostics.
CONNECTIVITY
CDC connectivity will be just as important as physical infrastructure, and we’ll provide straightforward, effective integration of your CDC, minimising administration for your clinical teams, with further digital services to improve both care quality and efficiency.
Imaging Network Solutions
GE Healthcare is supporting the NHS with its national Imaging Network Strategy (INS) — sharing information to improve both operational effectiveness, and patient experience and outcomes. Visit the INS section of our website to find out how imaging networks can transform your delivery of care.
